Spanish Heritage Cultural/Health Fair—September 25, 2021
On Saturday, September 25, St. Mark’s hosted a community health fair that was organized by Fairfax County, honoring Hispanic Heritage Month. Thanks to The Life Center for organizing our volunteer efforts for the event—it was a spectacular day to connect us with our neighbors! The Boy Scouts were here early to set up tables and chairs in the parking lot. We had around 20 members of St. Mark’s volunteering to help. A big thank you to everyone who made this a fantastic day!
Fairfax County administered 25 new COVID-19 vaccinations to members of the community, about 20 children received a dental screening exam, and about 40 people received vision/hearing screening tests. Local health and social service providers were here to help educate our neighbors about access to those services. Second Story distributed backpacks with school supplies. The Life Center and Second Story contributed gift cards for drawings that took place. 200 pupusas and 300 burritos were distributed, and The Life Center provided frozen treats. A DJ provided festive music throughout the day. Fairfax County Lee District Supervisor Rodney Lusk was here to meet people. We were all touched to see so many families in the parking lot, seeking the education, health, and family support services being offered.
The Fairfax County Times sent a reporter to the event, and the story is HERE. Fairfax County was delighted with the event, and we are planning to do another fair next year on September 17, 2022. We hope to see everyone there!
