Altar Guild - Mary Eskelund EMAIL The purpose of the Altar Guild is to clean and ready the Altar for worship. This involves weekly washing of communion glasses and trays, acolyte robes and crucifix's gloves, changing paraments, and other tasks that provide an appropriate Altar at which to worship our Lord. Care Packages to the Servicemen and Women serving in the Middle East - Debi Johnson EMAIL Items are collected the last Sunday of each month to ship to a recipient serving in the United States military. The recipient is asked to share with all paying special attention to those who receive nothing from home. Email Debi for more information. Click HERE for the request list from this month's recipient.

English as a Second Language (ESL) - EMAIL Volunteers are needed to teach, assist, and support the ESL fall program. ELS classes will be held every Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:00 pm in the Education Wing beginning September 13th. Please call Joan Smith at 703-354-2350 for more information.
Eucharistic Guild - Nancy Hartman EMAIL The Eucharistic Guild prepares the bread and wine for the Sacrament of Holy Communion. If you are interested in Eucharistic Guild membership, please contact Nancy.
Flower Committee - Trudy Stellar EMAIL The Flower Committee, operating under Altar Guild, consists of several individuals who arrange flowers for Sunday Services, Festivals and weddings. Sunday morning Altar Flowers may be given to celebrate or remember a person or occasion. Those giving a gift toward flowers each week are listed in “This Week” in the bulletin. Two members of the flower committee are assigned to arrange flowers for Services each week. Each person arranges flowers approximately ten times per year. Flower arranging workshops are occasionally held for those desiring to be a part of the Flower Guild. If you are interested in joining the Flower Guild and learning the art of flower arranging, please contact Trudy.
Food For Others - Cindy Hausch-Booth - EMAIL Provides free basic food stuffs to needy families every Tuesday evening at 6:00 pm. The food distribution is handled by rotating teams which provide pick up the food and sort it for distribution. Each team works about 1 hour one day a month. If you are interested in forming a distribution team or picking up the food for distribution, please contact the church office at 703-451-4331 or e-mail Cindy. Team Schedule April through June
Kitchen Guild - Alice McRorie EMAIL The Kitchen Guild oversees the operation, use, cleanliness, and maintenance of the church's kitchens. In 2002 and 2003, the kitchen has undergone renovation to modernize its equipment, update its storage systems, and improve it's functionality. The Guild depends on people interested in the kitchen and dedicated to its upkeep to ensure that the church has a facility that can meet church and community needs. If you are interested in either using the kitchen for an event, or becoming a member of the Kitchen Guild, please contact Alice.
Lutheran Marriage Encounter (LME) “Making good marriages great.” Lutheran Marriage Encounter is a weekend (44 hours) for couples to be away together. A weekend can supply greater depth, growth and enrichment in your relationship.
Men of St. Marks - Pastor Trower Email We gather in Room 214 of the Education Building each Wednesday morning at 7:00 for some breakfast (coffee, oatmeal, tea, OJ, fruit, some pastries, cheese, and the like). We share news, articles in the press, issues, questions. We read the Bible to understand what its message is for us. We have read the Pentateuch (the five books of Moses) and now we are reading the Gospel of Mark. Its discovery, teaching, questioning, applying to life -- and its never dull! We pray together and go on our way by 8:30 am. Some of us are employed; some of us are retired; all of us find much to do with our lives in Christ. All men are invited. Up early once a week is not bad!
Music Chancel Choir - Robert Webb EMAIL Handbells - St. Mark's Handbell Choir is made of diverse group of musicians who rehearse every Thursday from 7 - 8 pm, and play for worship approximately once a month. Prayer Group - Christa Hardesty Prayer Group meets on the second and fourth Thursday each month at 10:30 a.m. in the choir room at the church. Prayer requests come either from the office or are directly given to us by members and non-members of St. Mark's. We welcome new members to our group. Quilts and More - Mary Anderson EMAIL Quilts and More meets every Tuesday at 9:30 am - 3:00 pm in Friendship House. Come for a few hours or bring a lunch and stay longer, as your schedule permits. We make quilts, lap robes, walker pockets, heart pillows, stuffed animals, etc., and give them to people who need an extra hug to brighten their day. Come and help us share the love of God through the work of our hands. No previous experience or knowledge of sewing necessary. Sewing and non-sewing jobs available. Ushers - Chris Colovos EMAIL Ushers assist in worship by preparing the narthex and nave for the upcoming service. Pre-service responsibilities include handing out bulletins and assisting in seating. During the service ushers assist in communion, the offering, and an attendance count. After the service ushers straighten up the pews and transfer used bulletins to the recycling containers. Each of St. Mark's services has rotating volunteer usher teams scheduled for Sunday mornings. The assignments come up about every six weeks. Families and friends can be scheduled together and certain Sundays blocked out to accommodate schedules. Special services such as Christmas Eve, Lenten, and Funerals do not have scheduled teams but depend on usher volunteers. Weekly Team Ministries Acolytes, Altar Guild, Assisting Minister, Communion Bread Bakers, Counters, Eucharistic Committee, Flower Guild, Greeters, Lectors, Nursery Attenders, Ushers, and Welcome Committee are all instrumental in making Sunday Services at St. Mark's a special place to Worship. WELCA - Pat Martin The Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church offer several Circles that meet once a month for Bible study and friendship. Gifts of Hope Gifts of Hope enjoyed a very successful 2007 Christmas season and will return again in December 2008. Gifts of Hope is available year round for birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions. N Street Ministry N Street Village was founded in 1973, an inter-faith response to the suffering in our nation’s capital. Since then, concerned people of many faiths have been working together to meet the immediate and long-term needs of homeless women and low-income families. Services for homeless women include a day center, night shelter, Wellness Center, addiction recovery programs and community living for those with mental illness. Partnering with Local Elementary Schools for Education There are three elementary schools with the St Marks parish-Lynbrook (across the street from the church), Crestwood, and Garfield Elementary Schools. St Mark's endeavers to assist the staffs and student bodies of these schools with school supplies and other assistance as identified needs arise.
